Friedrich-Wilhelm Dauphin Receives Lifetime of HiPness Award for Decades of Design Excellence

We are proud to share that our founder, Friedrich-Wilhelm Dauphin, has been honored with the prestigious Lifetime of HiPness award at the 2025 HiP Awards, presented by Interior Design magazine in partnership with The Merchandise Mart in Chicago.

This lifetime achievement award recognizes Mr. Dauphin’s extraordinary influence on the global furniture industry—most notably his groundbreaking work in ergonomic seating, his visionary design philosophy, and his deep commitment to creating spaces that elevate the way people live and work.

A Visionary with a Human-Centered Mission

Friedrich-Wilhelm Dauphin founded the Dauphin company with a clear purpose: to improve the modern workplace through intelligent, ergonomic design. At a time when ergonomics was barely a concept, he saw the potential to merge form and function in entirely new ways. This set a foundation that would not only shape our company, but also shift the standards of comfort, wellness, and productivity in office design worldwide.

Design that Goes Beyond Furniture

What sets Mr. Dauphin apart isn’t just his professional accomplishments but the passion and creativity that extend across every part of his life.

His love of design began with automobiles. At just 18, he restored his first car with the help of his father. This formative experience sparked a lifelong fascination with craftsmanship and mechanics. Today, Mr. Dauphin is the proud curator of a remarkable collection of over 110 vintage race cars and hundreds of motorbikes that he shares with enthusiasts and visitors whenever possible.

Another reflection of his enduring vision is the restoration of Allée Bleue, a historic vineyard estate in South Africa’s Franschhoek Valley. Together with his late wife Elke, Mr. Dauphin transformed the 300-year-old property into a thriving cultural and winemaking destination. With its blend of heritage, innovation, and hospitality, Allée Bleue is a natural extension of the design values that guide him: beauty, community, and lasting impact.
